FOUNDATIONS OF SKINCARE: HOW TO BUILD A ROUTINE

Every skincare routine should include four steps: cleanse, treat, hydrate, and protect. The products in each category will differ between people due to skin types, concerns, and goals but the basic four steps remain the same.

STEP ONE: CLEANSE

Cleansing is the most important step of any skincare routine, it gives you a clean canvas and allows the rest of your products to go deeper into the skin. Double cleansing is the act of cleansing your skin twice, either with the same cleanser or two different cleansers. Your first cleanse removes all the pollution and impurities that collect on your skin throughout the day. Your second cleanse gets into your pores and can really target your specific concerns.

We carry a variety of cleansers to cater to all skin types and concerns. Want a cleanser that does it all? Check out iS Clinical Cleansing Complex, it's super effective in treating the skin and a little goes a long way. Want a cleanser that doubles as a treatment mask? Try out the iS Clinical Warming Honey Mask. Have acne prone skin? Try incorporating GlyMed Plus Idyllic Cleanser as a second cleanse. Looking for something gentle, without any actives? Skin Better Cleansing Gel could be the right fit! If you'd like to learn more about all the cleansers we have available, check out Fundamentals of Skincare: Cleanser 101

STEP TWO: TREAT

Treating the skin is everything from physical exfoliants to eye creams to vitamin C serums to retinols. Your treatment products can be different during your morning and evening routines. You can also use more than one treatment product at a time to help target your different concerns.

Choosing the right treatment product for your skin depends on what you want to target. Want to combat dryness? A hyaluronic acid like iS Clinical Hydra-Cool Serum or Hydrinity Restorative HA Serum is for you. Finelines and wrinkles? Skin Better Interfuse Lines is like no-needle botox. For spot treating inflamed acne, try GlyMed Plus Blemish Control No.5. Not sure what your skin needs? Feel free fill out our skin consult form with your concerns and one of our team members will be in touch!

STEP THREE: HYDRATE

Hydrating the skin is important for everyone, even if you have oily skin. It is a common misconception that you don't need to wear moisturizer if you have oily skin. Your skin type is different from your skin’s moisture barrier. Moisturizer can actually help with overactive sebaceous glands and balance oil production.

For oilier skin, we suggest GlyMed Plus Oxygen Cream. For most skin types and for people who like a dewier finish, try iS Clinical Reparative Moisture Emulsion or Skin Better Trio Rebalancing Moisture. For dry skin types or those with compromised skin, the iS Clinical Sheald Recovery Balm works wonders, especially if you live in a dry climate.

STEP FOUR: PROTECT

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, why wouldn’t you protect it? Sun protection is the easiest way to prevent signs of aging as well as protect you from skin cancers. You should be wearing SPF every day, yes even in winter and on rainy, cloudy days. It is also important to remember to reapply your SPF throughout the day.

If you like a dewy finish, check out iS Clinical Eclipse SPF 50+, which comes in a tinted version as well! If you have oilier skin or like a lighter feeling product, we suggest trying GlyMed Plus Hydrating Protection Gel SPF 30.

Vitamin C Serums. You need to get one, but why? What makes Vitamin C Serums such a crucial part of your skincare routine? How do you choose between the hundreds available?

Just as ingestible Vitamin C has healing properties, topical Vitamin C (or a Vitamin C Serum) also plays a part in healing and protecting our skin. Even though Vitamin C can be found in our bodies, we cannot produce it on our own; Thus the need for topical and ingestible Vitamin C.

FOUNDATIONS OF SKINCARE: CLEANSER 101

With a myriad of cleansers saturating the market, selecting the ideal one for your skin can be quite the challenge. Just like SPF shields your skin from harm, a good cleanser preps your skin, allowing your treatment products to work effectively. It’s not just about washing; it’s about a thorough cleanse, taking at least 60 seconds to rid your skin of the day's grime and pollutants.

At The A’esthetic, we pride ourselves on offering a variety of cleansers, each tailored to cater to specific skin needs beyond mere cleansing.
